Welcome to Make Another Day.  After months of indecision, we picked that name after reading the lyrics to California Stars.  It fit for a few reasons.

First, this blog is the documentation of our amazing cross country trip from our humble beginnings in Connecticut, to vast unknown of that other coast.  And, duh, California is right there in the title of the song.  Secondly, if you read the lyrics you'll find (at least we did) that there is a certain underlying message to the song; that of striving for betterment, of working so hard for something, be it survival or just a feeling of contentment, and to do it with and for the one you love.

For a while we've felt we were working for nothing.  Falling into bed at night, sighing, wishing that we had more.  Not more money or more things, just more of life.  More of those things that make you look at each other and fall in love again.  More of the things that make you forget your crappy job, and remind you that you are an important part of this world, and you can make a difference.  And so we're off, to make our place in the world.

Another thing about this song that made it such a good fit, is that it was written by Woody Guthrie, champion activist.  Each of us, in everything we do should try to do our part to, ahem, make another day.  And there you have it.

I was talking to my very wise friend Mary about this move and, of course the discussion moved to Jack Kerouac, king of the road.  What if On the Road was completely made up?  A figment of Jack's imagination, what then?  Generations of people, just like us closed the final chapter in that book and preceded to write their own, carving out their names across this nation all because of that book.  We came to the conclusion that it didn't matter if it was all a myth, the events that followed were reality, and the stories and experiences it created were reality.  And so, Matt and I are off to create our reality and to start the next phase of our lives.

Hopefully, the blog will be updated frequently with our amazing and daring tales of adventure.  More than that, hopefully we'll be leaving soon.  (Apparently moving's preferred political philosophy is socialism, as Matt is involved in some bartered work that needs to be completed before we go; his first post will be arriving shortly.)  Thanks for reading, and enjoy.
